The Listening Gallery

Open 365 days of the year - 24 hours a day | Free

A world-first audio gallery in an old phone box.

In 2017 we adopted an old BT phone box. We were keen to save this piece of our town’s heritage and repurpose it.

The gallery is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and is totally free to enter.

Our current exhibition is Bill Mitchell – Tales from the Archive. W.R. (Bill) Mitchell, MBE., was a native of the Yorkshire Dales.  He spent 39 years working on The Dalesman magazine, the last 20 as editor.  Bill was a remarkable raconteur of tales based on 60 years of chatting with local folk.  In 2012 Settle Stories established The W. R. Mitchell Archive to preserve the oral history within his recordings.

This exhibition has been funded as part of the Ingleborough Dales Landscape Partnership Stories in Stone project led by the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and supported by The Heritage Lottery Fund. Stories in Stone is a scheme of conservation and community projects concentrated on the Ingleborough area, celebrating the local landscape.

If you’ve enjoyed your visit and want to support the ongoing cost of the gallery, you can donate here.  We’d really appreciate a review on Tripadvisor too.

If you’re visiting the Listening Gallery, you can’t miss Gallery on the Green, a visual art gallery in a restored phone box, just up the hill from the Listening Gallery.
