Festival of Story

Yorkshire Festival of Story

With Festival Guest Director Joanne Harris (MBE)

1st – 31st August 2020

Free. Online. Everywhere.

At a time when our experiences are limited, let’s use stories to escape, to gain new perspectives, to get active. With our most groundbreaking programme to date, get up on your feet, and get involved as Yorkshire Festival Of Story goes digital.

Have breakfast with Joanne Harris MBE, Dame Jenni Murray, and the Bronte Society. Travel the globe through folktales with Joanne Harris, Ben Okri OBE, and Kevin Crossley-Holland. Amanda Owen – Yorkshire Shepherdess – will teach you how to lead a flock of humans (and sheep).

Hunt for plants across Japan and Burma in The Great Botanical Adventure with Nick Hennessey as he tells the story of Dalesman Reginald Farrer. Join captivating storytellers Jan Blake, TUUP, Clare Murphy and more to discover the myths and folktales that have shaped our world.

Challenge the stories of today and have a laugh with feminist comedian Jessica Fostekew. Strip politics of it’s pompousness with Political Party. Change the narrative, in American Election, an Interactive Fiction.

Stories bind us together in times of difficulty. When we are surrounded by formidable headlines, endless online articles, and misinformation, stories give us clarity.

This August, Yorkshire Festival Of Story will support creatives, communities, and individuals. We will stream hope into your homes as we celebrate our region and our world. There will be events for all ages. This festival is an immersive celebration of togetherness. Come and be a part of it.
