Tom wrote about the fun events in the lives of ordinary people.  Fairs and circuses came to Settle and he captures some of that excitement in his poem, The Fair

Another of his poems, T'Kersmas Party, describes the excitement of a party as well as the subterfuge when two young people try to get away and find some time on their own.  As usual with Tom's poems, the humour shines through and there is a moral at the end to be a warning to others.
