Ensure Rural Arts Survival

At Settle Stories, we believe that the arts should be accessible to everyone, including isolated rural communities like our own. Through our flagship festival, year round events and learning programmes, our small, robust charity brings high quality arts to the Yorkshire Dales.

Earlier this year, due to the worldwide pandemic, we made the decision to take Yorkshire Festival Of Story online.

At a time when so many of us are suffering, the healing power of the arts has never been more vital. It was because of this that we couldn’t cancel. We are working around the clock to produce an online festival that is free to all and will give people new experiences, allow us to reconnect and to share our stories.

Over the last 10 years, we have inspired tens of thousands of school children created arts projects to combat loneliness for the elderly.and connected with those on the fringes of our society, recovering from substance abuse, those facing prejudice and those who needed to reframe their personal story.  Our festival has brought the best of the arts from across the globe to Settle, one of the most rurally isolated parts of the UK. All of this was only ever made possible because of you, our supporters. Thank you for enabling us to impact thousands of lives with the power of story.

Now, our charity looks to you to dig deep and help keep us going. Unfortunately, the arts sector has been hit particularly hard by the current crisis. Settle Stories – the charity behind Yorkshire Festival of Story – is independent. We receive no regular funding. Without revenue from ticket sales, we need to raise £10,000 in emergency funds to give us time to refocus and reimagine, and to plot a route forward for Settle Stories and Yorkshire Festival Of Story to secure the next decade. But the clock is ticking. With no funding we will cease to exist.

In a small charity like ours, no penny goes unnoticed. Everything counts. So, whether it’s £20, £50, or £100, we will be eternally grateful for whatever you can afford to donate. Please help secure the next decade of Settle Stories and Yorkshire Festival of Story.
