Calling all budding story tellers! This is a big shout out for anyone aged between 7 -11 years old who are living in the UK and have a passion for writing stories.

To mark our 10th birthday, Settle Stories is holding the Yorkshire Festival of Story to transport our audiences to faraway magical lands and embark on amazing adventures with some of the finest storytellers in the land.

As festival preparations get underway, a new, exciting writing competition has been launched to find a new generation of storytellers with author, Cressida Cowell, the Waterstones Children’s Laureate and author of How to Train your Dragon book series.

The only rules are that your story must be set in Yorkshire and be no more than 750 words, sometimes less is more!  Budding authors are encouraged to unleash their imagination and make the characters and plotline as memorable and exciting as they possibly can.

The two winners and four runners up will get a personal response from Cressida Cowell herself, and their story not only exhibited at the Festival of Story but even more excitingly, performed by a professional storyteller. A real chance to see your name in lights! There are further prizes for the winners and the runners up with further details on website.

Artistic Director, Sita Brand has created an inspirational resource pack for teachers to help develop children’s writing skills and fire their creativity and imagination which can be downloaded for free.  Check it out here.

Competition Judge Cressida Cowell is looking forward to reading all the amazing stories, so get writing and don’t forget to submit your stories via the website by 22nd May 2020.

Good Luck!
