Lulia Togara is a performer and spoken word artist with a background in theatre acting. After a few years in theatre she has decided to focus on writing and creating her own work and collaborating with others making new work. Last year she begun her new journey by creating a performance piece under the collaborative duo of The Bos for the Leeds City of Culture 2023 Bid Send Off Celebration event. After which she and her performance partner continued to perform and develop the piece.
Lulia is currently focusing on the collaboration with Mimesis to produce the Unforgettable Tongue, a story-telling experience re-telling the folklore of the Bradford Boar. For this she is part story-teller and part performer whilst using djembe drumming as a narrative driver.
Lulia recently secured her first commission as a solo artist for the Leeds Words In The City Festival which will be taking place on the 11th – 13th of May 2018. This piece will explore the beliefs of a broad range of people in Leeds on the different barriers they feel they face balanced with the power of self-acceptance and unity. She will take to the streets doing surveys and shape the people’s words into a meditative performance of words in a landscape of music and movement.
