John Namai

John is a professional storyteller. Trained in the art of storytelling Sigana, he has displayed his talents in numerous tours in Sweden, Denmark, Romania, India, South Africa, Ethiopia and Somalia.

In 2018, he won 3rd place in the 20th International Kanoon Fair in Tehran. A member of Zamaleo Acts, he runs workshops for Somali youth in Nairobi. Have participated in the making of the book “Story, Story Come!,” an anthology gathering twelve stories based on re-imagined tales from African perspectives. As an artist, he is guided by his belief that the shortest distance between humans is a story.

Recently participated in Mboka Festival is an annual event showcasing the cultural heritage of The Gambia together with the creation of the African diaspora. As part of the festival, John has presented a new theatrical creation that aims to explore themes of egoism and corruption.
