Francis Michael Eliot
Francis Michael Eliot is a movement practitioner, having been immersed for over 15 years in the wonderful dance meditation practice called 5Rhythms. He was trained by the late Gabrielle Roth in 2004 to teach the practice that he continues to love and learn from, and he has held weekly classes in his home town of Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire for over a decade.
Francis’s passion for dance and rhythm also expresses itself through the playing of hand percussion, primarily the djembe and ashiko drums and the modern steel ‘hang pan’. He quotes,’’It is an ever evolving joy for me to explore and learn from the endless physical, emotional, mythical and shamanic landscapes that are provided by an exploration of the relationships between the dancer, the dance, the drummer and the rhythms available’’.
Moreover his experience is that great healing for the individual and the collective can occur when old and new stories are given form from a place of mindfulness, connection, intuition and passion. I am currently in the process of writing my own dance piece based on a physical exploration of the spiritual dimensionless realm that some call God, others consciousness or non dual awareness.
This search for the ultimate truth of our identity has been at the forefront of Francis’s daily life and teaching particularly in the last 4 years since embarking on a journey as a committed student of the impeccable Vedanta meditation teacher Rupert Spira who describes his work as an experiential (as opposed to simply intellectual) contemplation of the nature of reality and experience.
